Metacam Mg/Ml Oral Suspension, 10 Ml Size 1.5

Product Details Metacam Oral Suspension Product Information Metacam Oral Suspension is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) oral medication used to treat pain and inflammation in dogs. Meloxicam has been used in cats for osteoarthritis, pain and inflammatory conditions. Metacam works by inhibiting the cell's production of chemicals that trigger inflammation. For Dogs Benefits Metacam Oral Suspension is indicated for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs. Active Ingredients meloxicam, sodium benzoate Side Effects The most common side effect is stomach upset. Serious adverse reactions can occur with NSAIDs in dogs. The most common side effects involve the stomach, liver, and/or kidneys. Notify your veterinarian immediately if these side effects are observed: vomiting, change in appetite, diarrhea, dark or bloody stools, change in behavior, increased urination or drinking of water, lethargic behavior. Other side effects may occur. Follow up routinely with your veterinarian while your pet is on this medication. Usage Metacam should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Try to give this medication at about the same time each day (preferably after or with a meal). To prevent accidental overdosing of small dogs, administer drops on food only, never directly into the mouth. Shake well. Measure liquid medication using the syringe provided with product. Note: syringe is calibrated by weight. Cautions The safety of Metacam in dogs less than 6 months of age and in pregnant, breeding, or nursing dogs has not been evaluated. Dogs with known hypersensitivity to meloxicam should not receive Metacam. Do not use Metacam in cats. Acute renal failure and death have been associated with the use of meloxicam in cats. Use with extreme caution and continued monitoring in geriatric animals and those with dehydration, diabetes mellitus, or stomach, intestinal, liver, heart, and blood disorders. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may occur. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. The following drugs can potentially interact with meloxicam: oral anticoagulants, heparin, other anti-inflammatory agents, salicylates, corticosteroids, and ACE inhibitors. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together. Store this medicine in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
